A Positive Place for Kids

A positive community for children to freely explore and discover their world!

Having been inspired by Reggio Emilia and the Creative Curriculum, our methods focus on helping children: grasp the love of learning, obtain a sense of independence, build and maintain relationships, and gain an appreciation for their community. We welcome all families and take pride in our efforts to create an anti-bias environment that promotes diversity and multi-cultural appreciation.

Our Schedule (subject to change)

  • 9:00 Welcome, Table Activities
  • 9:30-10:30 Stations
  • 9:45 Snack Available
  • 10:30-11:00 Circle Time
  • 11:00-11:30 Group Activity
  • 11:30-12:00 Outside Time
  • 12:15-12:45 Lunch
  • 1:00-2:00 Rest Time/ Quiet Reading
  • 2:00-2:30 Free Play
  • 2:30-3:00 Outside/ Family Pick-up

We service children 3-5 years of age; and due to the nature of our program and facilities, children must be potty trained. We have one room that we share with the school-age programs (before and after-school), creating our greatest challenge: keeping our room age-appropriate for all of our children and maintaining order in such a large, colorful room. However, teamwork with teachers and parents help create a home away from home where children are able to come out of their shells and be themselves.

Our Preschool Philosophies

Curriculum. In our program, children are highly valued and respected. We value their views and perspectives, seriously considering all that they share through their many languages (artwork, words, behavior, etc). We understand that each child has their own unique way of learning or expressing creativity.
Our goal is to capture and utilize the interests of the children, promoting free exploration, problem solving, group work and independence. We accomplish this by observing behavior, listening to their words, documenting their ideas (portfolios), and displaying their progress (photos, artwork, discussions, etc.). All of these factors make it a collaborated curriculum between children, teachers and parents.
Family Roles. We view families as the child’s first teacher. We recognize that each family comes from various backgrounds, religions, and cultures. We embrace the amazing differences each child brings from their home, creating a unique environment. Our doors are always open to parents/guardians; and we greatly value family involvement and input. We maintain open communication through child portfolios, personal conversations and planned gatherings.
Environment. We believe the environment is the third teacher and each area of our room should have the undertones of learning and discovery. Our goal is to provide natural, open-ended materials (rocks, sticks, dried flowers, driftwood, etc) opening a door to many possibilities and taking away all constraints to a child’s imagination.
Play Philosophy. Our teachers believe in the importance of play in a child’s life. Playtime is learning time since children are interacting with each other, building social skills, exploring, role-playing, and discovering. We see play as the perfect tool for learning; and we believe that if our environment is properly prepared, the children will develop many needed life skills.
Inclusion. In it is our belief that all children are entitled to quality care and education, regardless of their abilities and needs. We consider ourselves partners with other child advocates and professionals; and we gladly tailor our environment and curriculum to the needs of each child. If your child has specific needs, we prefer setting up a meeting with parents, to determine if our program is the best option for your child.
Our Role as Teachers. As teachers, we view ourselves as observers and facilitators. We provide open ended activities and conversations, empowering children with the ability to problem solve and freely explore their world. We help children represent their ideas and perspectives through creative expression, various forms of play, motor skills, and social experiences. We encourage children to build strong relationships within the cultures of their home, school and community.
Guidance Philosophy. We consider ourselves guides more than disciplinarians. We believe in helping children solve their own dilemma by teaching them democratic, social skills. Any form of discipline is to help children develop self-control and independence. We do not condone time-outs and methods of punishments, but do conduct “regroup times” with a teacher present. We do not view children as bad or malicious. In their attempt to learn more about their world, children will have mistaken behaviors that need guidance through adult example and intervention. We encourage acceptable and positive behavior; and hold to the belief that all children are capable of making good choices.
